Despite a few moments where we're nursing a bit of a "house hangover," we've mostly moved away from the 4/4 thump of the past few mixes and back towards our normally eclectic mix of tempos and styles. And while we are still presenting some very freshly-minted tracks, we have thrown in a run of classics that we felt you may love as much as we do. All in all, we're very happy with this mix, as it seems to capture the restless spirit of the early summer filtered through a consistently romantic and arty haze. But maybe we're waxing poetic. Just give it a listen to hear for yourself.

So we've reached the third and final of our upbeat early summer trilogy. (I'm not sure when we decided it would be a trilogy, but it somehow worked out that way.) The tempos are slightly slower this time but we're still pretty firmly in four-to-the-floor indie party territory. The mix is sorta loosely based on what we'd like to hear while in a pool with a swim-up bar, and also collects a few of our favorite thumpers that weren't on the past two mixes. (And apologies for the slightly less-frequent release schedule; beatmatching takes a lot more time!) Next time we'll probably shift back to the more typical Quiet Times sound, but for now, we hope you have lots of occasion to enjoy these more swingin' mixes. And if you're in the Atlanta area and have access to a pool with a swim-up bar, call us!

We decided to continue in somewhat the same vein as the last mix, so here we offer you another upbeat mix of indie-fied house music. This includes quite a few of the "songs of the summer" (or the spring, in retrospect), with some classic tracks thrown in to keep it interesting. It's a great summer mix, made even better by another wonderful illustration by Miz K. We hope you enjoy and we'll be back in a few weeks.

Sorry for veering off schedule a bit, but we had to squeeze in a relaxing trip to the coast. The Atlantic Ocean has also given us new inspiration for the next couple of mixes, including this one, which looks more into the murky gray water than it does to the sunny beaches. Also inspiring us was Pon's artistic contribution, from her "Mr. Waddlesworth" series (check her Flickr page for more). It's also been a chance to use some of the weirder tracks we've been collecting, and generally the tracks are more recent than on the past few mixes. Along with the oddness, you'll also find the tempo is slightly more elevated than usual, especially as the mix goes on, so you can tap your feet while we tickle your ears. We'll try to follow up with another one soon.

Also, in "we're English majors and not very good with numbers" news, I just realized that the art on all the previous 2009 mixes had the year as 2008. Oops! I'll be giving myself a good editorial lashing over that and if you noticed and didn't say anything, thanks for not embarrassing me! The art has been updated in all the uploads, so if you are particular (and I know some of you are), you can redownload them to get the correct date. Also, all of this year's posts are unlocked again so you should be able to "refresh podcast" in iTunes to update it as well. Sorry for the oversight!

We're continuing in our escapist mode, but this time instead of a space voyage, we invite you to join us on a late-night drive through the American Southwest. We're playing with lots of the Lynchian and Tarantino-esque vibes we like so much, so expect plenty of pedal steel and melancholic vocals and dark ambiance. We've also tossed in a few curveballs to keep you from dozing off in the passenger's seat. Enjoy, and we'll be back in a few days with a special spook-tastic Halloween mix.

Wow, it's our 40th issue! To mark the occasion, we've rounded up a mess of international songs that have a certain lazy late summer vibe. We also worked a few new ones that are among what we consider the "hits" from the summer of 2008. And while maybe we've spent less time at the beach or in the pool this year than we would have liked, songs like this are the next best thing to actually being in some aquatic paradise. Next time we'll start with our fall mixes (if you listened along last year, you have an idea of what to expect) and the whole new mess of moods and sounds a new season suggests. But for now, enjoy this last missive from a truly great, despite being landlocked, summer.
